New Packaged Feed Facility Opens!
Kalmbach Feeds, a regional leader in the animal nutrition industry, today celebrated the grand opening of a new packaged feed plant in Carey, Ohio, during a ribbon cutting ceremony. The plant supports the company’s significant growth in the retail segment.
“At Kalmbach Feeds, our mission is to go above and beyond to provide the highest-quality animal feed products that our customers and partners value and have come to expect,” said Paul Kalmbach, president of Kalmbach Feeds. “We know that the needs of our customers are constantly changing, and that requires us to evolve to ensure we can deliver innovative products to help them succeed. This new state-of-the-art facility, which leverages the latest technologies, is an important step in helping us achieve that goal.”
Kalmbach Feeds’ new facility features the first fully-automated palletizing line, which is a hybrid between a robot and a conventional palletizer, in the North American feed industry.
The 20,000-square foot, 120-foot tall building is a one-of-a-kind concrete, slip-formed manufacturing plant with ingredient and process towers. The facility has fully automated, computer-controlled processes with full reports of batching, screening, mixing and liquid addition.
The state-of-the-art climate-controlled warehouse has been expanded by 25,000-square feet to a total of 90,000-square feet and stores more than 7,000 pallets of product. Team members use a fully-implemented warehouse management system (WMS) to clearly identify pallets and products and maintain first-in, first-out processing. Kalmbach Feeds is also the only feed distributor that utilizes a bar-code reader to track where and when products are received, stored and shipped by lot number and license plate ID.
“We built this new plant because of our customers’ incredible response to the high-quality products that we produce,” said Kalmbach. “Making this investment in the Wyandot County community, where our company is headquartered, provides an important growth opportunity for the organization and greatly expands the products we can offer to our customers. This growth is a testament to our team members and our customers.” Kalmbach said that while the company has grown over the years, their commitment to quality and value have remained the same.
Kalmbach Feeds was started in 1963 by Milton and Ruth Kalmbach, and over the last 50 years has grown into a regional leader in the animal nutrition industry. Kalmbach Feeds produces a full line of products to meet the feed needs of quality minded commercial livestock producers and independent dealers who serve horse owners, lifestyle animal enthusiasts, 4-H members and show competitors. One of the fastest growing of the Kalmbach Feeds family of brands is Tribute Equine Nutrition, the organization’s premium line of horse feeds.
