Kalmbach Feeds To Open New Manufacturing Facility

REK Header 1

One of the first things that comes to mind when you think of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, is Kalmbach Feeds, a family-owned business that began in 1963. Now, Kalmbach Feeds is expanding its operations and has begun construction on a new manufacturing plant located on County Road 44 between US Route 23 and State Route 199.

You may have driven down US Route 23 and seen the progress on the new plant, which is comprised of a concrete slip form tower standing approximately 108’ x 53’ x 178’ with an additional 30-foot basement, along with adjacent warehouse buildings for
raw material storage. This tower was constructed using approximately 4500 cubic yards of concrete, 450 concrete trucks, 200+ workers and a continuous pour of concrete for about 14 days.

This new facility will be named after Ruth Elizabeth Kalmbach (REK) and will operate very similar to our manufacturing facility in Carey, Ohio. There will be grain and ingredient receiving and storage, as well as grinding, mixing, pelleting and finished feed loadout capabilities. This facility will initially have a 180,000-bushel corn bin and 12,000 bushel per hour unloading capabilities, along with future corn storage expansion and drying considerations. Two finish feed loadout bays
are also included to better serve our customers and drivers. The new plant is scheduled to be in operation in January 2018.

This expansion could not be done without the collaborative efforts of the following individuals: Greg Moon, Executive Director, Wyandot County Office of Economic Development Chase Eikenbary, Project Manager, Regional Growth Partnership/JobsOhio Bill Clinger, Ron Metzger and Steve Seitz, Wyandot County Commissioners Michael Kohl, Wyandot County Engineer Jeff Hohman, SWCD Chuck Corbitt and Ed Schwartz, AEP Economic & Business Development

Kalmbach Feeds has received grant funding from each division above that will go towards the expansion and upgrade of the affected portion of County Road 44, property drainage improvements and new electric power
delivery systems.

We are thankful to all of those who are working together to make this project a success, and eager to bring this new manufacturing plant to Upper Sandusky, creating jobs and a hopeful future for the community and surrounding areas.
